Percy Lazon de la Jara is Head of Clinical Research at the Brien Holden Vision Institute where he directs research and clinical activities at the Institute’s Clinical Research and Trials Centre.

Dr Lazon de la Jara completed his Optometry degree at the Escuela Superior de Optica y Optometria and a Bachelor of Optometry degree at the Universidad Peruana Los Andes School of Optometry in Lima, Peru. After working in private practice and as a contact lens educator, Percy undertook a fellowship at the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit (CCLRU) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1994.

He became the first Regional Coordinator for Latin America of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) in 1995, having a significant impact on the development of the contact lens field in the region during his appointment of 10 years.

In 2000, Dr Lazon de la Jara was awarded a scholarship to undertake a PhD at the Cooperative Research Centre for Eye Research and Technology (CRCERT) at UNSW. He was awarded his PhD in 2005. He has been admitted as a Fellow of IACLE and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He has presented at more than 70 educational and scientific conferences in16 countries.

In 2009, he became Head of Clinical Research at the Brien Holden Vision Institute.
