Diagnostic Microbiology PDF Print

The Institute has a group of very experienced microbiologists who perform routine diagnostic microbiology services for the Clinical Research and Trials Centre and work in conjunction with many of the microbiology projects.

The diagnostic microbiology service has been instrumental in identifying which types of micro-organisms cause certain adverse events during contact lens wear. These findings have been the basis for much basic and applied research designed to combat the production of these adverse events (for example, development of antimicrobial contact lenses and improved contact lens disinfecting solutions).
