Modified Autorefractorautorefractor_lge

Traditionally, ocular refraction was only measured for the central, on axis position. With the discovery that the peripheral visual field may play a key role in the progression of myopia, specialised equipment was needed to investigate this aspect of visual experience. Based on an open field autorefractor, a series of modifications have been tested to identify the most suitable configuration to provide reliable off-centre fixation and control of accommodation.

Tear Film Research

Complementary systems have been developed for observation and assessment of the tear film, including a dacryomensicometer for quantifying the profile of the tear meniscus, a specular macroscope for frontal observation of the tear film and investigation of strategies to enhance images obtainable with the tearscope.

Aberrometer

As part of a large scale clinical investigation, peripheral aberrometry data was obtained from young subjects of various age groups. Customised fixation targets were added to the instrument to control the gaze direction and accommodation.
