Human Research Ethics Committee (VIHEC)The primary role of the committee is to assess the ethical suitability of research proposals involving human participants or human tissue. It will ensure that all research is conducted in compliance with the Statement on Consumer and Community Participation in Health and Medical Research 2002; National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007; and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2007.

Brien Holden Vision Institute Animal Ethics Committee (BIAEC)The primary role of the committee is to assess the ethical merit of scientific and teaching activities that involve animals or animal tissue. It will ensure that all animal care and use within an institution is conducted in compliance with the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (7th Edition 2004) and incorporate the principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.
