The initial IER Matrix Study (released in September 2007) and IER Matrix Study Update (March 2008) investigated the level of solution-induced corneal staining (SICS) that occurred with long-term use of commercially available contact lenses and contact lens solutions. Wearers that experience SICS during contact lens wear have a higher risk of discomfort and infiltrates. The studies are a major investment towards providing eye care practitioners with valuable information on the optimum combinations of lenses and solutions for their patients.
